چکیده

Major syntactic boundaries are often accompanied by a rise in the phrase component of the fundamental frequency (F0) contour. Detecting such rises, therefore, can be signi cantly helpful to the speech recognition process. We developed a method to detect syntactic boundaries with phrasecomponent rise (henceforth, phrase boundaries), based on the compression of the accent component of the F0 contour (in logarithmic scale), using a low-pass lter. In this method, F0 contours are viewed as signals in the time domain, which can be roughly separated into phrase and accent components due to their di erent frequency contents. Phrase boundaries are detected whenever a signi cant rise occurs in the derivative of the ltered F0 contour. (The concepts of phrase and accent components can be found in [1]). The method managed to detect about 77% of manually detectable phrase boundaries, though with a relatively high insertion rate. The insertion rate can be reduced by using the partial AbS method, proposed by the authors [7].

Use of Prosodic Features in Speech Recognition

Two methods were proposed for the use of prosodic features in speech recognition: one to detect major syntactic (phrase) boundaries as the initial phase of speech recognition, and the other to check the feasibility of the results of ordinary recognition process from the viewpoint of prosodic features. In the rst method, fundamental frequency contours were assumed as waveforms as functions of ti...

Accent type recognition and syntactic boundary detection of Japanese using statistical modeling of moraic transitions of fundamental frequency contours

Experiments on accent type recognition and syntactic boundary detection of Japanese speech were conducted based on the statistical modeling of voice fundamental frequency contours formerly proposed by the authors. In the proposed modeling, fundamental frequency contours are segmented into moraic units to generate moraic contours, which are further represented by discrete codes. After modeling t...

Data-Driven Synthesis of Fundamental Frequency Contours for TTS Systems Based on a Generation Process Model

A data-driven method of fundamental frequency (F0) contour synthesis was developed for Japanese text-to-speech (TTS) conversion systems. In the method, synthesis is done using the F0 contour generation process model, and the model parameters for each accent phrase are estimated using statistical methods. Although it was already shown that the synthesized F0 contours sounded highly natural as th...

Rule-based Generation of Phrase Components in Two-step Synthesis of Fundamental Frequency Contours of Mandarin

In this paper, a rule-based method was developed for realizing phrase components in our two-step generation of fundamental frequency (F0) contours of Mandarin. The scheme assumes (logarithmic) F0 contours as superposition of tone components on phrase components, which are further assumed to be responses of phrase commands. In general, possibility of a new phrase command comes higher at deeper s...

A targets-based superpositional model of fundamental frequency contours applied to HMM-based speech synthesis

Superpositional model of fundamental frequency (F0) contours as suggested by the Fujisaki model can well represent F0 movements of speech keeping a clear relation with linguistic information of utterances. Therefore, improvement of HMM-based speech synthesis is expected by using the merit of superpositional model. In this paper, a targets-based superpositional model is proposed in the light of ...
